“I think adoption is a great choice. You can bless a family who are unable to have kids.”

I gave my baby up for adoption because I wasn't financially stable for another baby and I got pregnant when my daughter was only three months old. I wanted my baby to have a better life than I could provide for her.

What were your concerns going into the adoption process?

I was concerned that I would not be able to go through with my decision of giving my baby up.

What helped ease your concerns while going through the adoption process?

I started communicating with the family I chose to adopt my baby. I began to get to know them better. I was also able to spend time with them right before I had the baby and I grew close and comfortable with them. They are such wonderful people and that definitely eased my concerns to know my baby was going to be with such amazing people.

What were you looking for in an adoptive family, and what made you choose the family you did?

I was looking for a family who had no children and who couldn't conceive. The family I chose fit this. I also loved their photos. They looked genuinely happy and from their story they seemed to be very stable.

How did your baby’s adoptive family help you through the adoption process?

My baby’s adoptive family helped me with a roof over my and my daughter’s heads. They also helped me with certain weekly allowances that were allowed through their lawyer. They also were there for me in the hospital room when I had the baby and helped me through having the baby.

What type of adoption did you choose, and why?

At first I wanted semi-open. I was scared that if I saw or heard too much about the baby, I would be filled with guilt and regret. But now it’s open and I'm glad because it actually helps to know the family is happy and everything is going well.

Describe your thoughts and emotions before and after the baby’s birth?

My thoughts before birth where how am I going to do this? I knew it would be the hardest choice I've ever made, and after the birth I cried. I still do, especially when I see pictures, but now it’s more of a happy cry because I know I made the best decision for my baby.

What are you looking forward to now that the adoption process is completed?

I’m looking forward to continuing my relationship with the adoptive family and growing stronger for the rest of my children.

What advice would you give to other pregnant women who are considering adoption?

I think adoption is a great choice. You can bless a family who are unable to have kids. Sometimes you have to think what is best for your baby.
